Key Responsibilities:
- Leadership & Supervision: Recruit, train, and supervise kitchen staff and volunteers to create a cohesive and efficient food service team.
- Menu Planning: Develop diverse and nutritious menus for each camp session, ensuring meals meet the dietary requirements and preferences of campers and staff (e.g., allergies, gluten-free, vegetarian).
- Meal Preparation & Service: Oversee the preparation and timely service of meals, snacks, and beverages for groups ranging from 100-200 people per meal.
- Inventory & Ordering: Manage inventory, place food orders, and ensure proper storage of all supplies to minimize waste and meet budget guidelines.
- Dietary Compliance: Collaborate with the camp nurse and leadership team to address special dietary needs, ensuring all meals are safe and appropriate for individuals with allergies or medical conditions.
- Health & Safety: Maintain compliance with all health department regulations, including food handling, sanitation, and kitchen cleanliness standards.
- Budget Management: Plan and operate within an approved food service budget, tracking expenses and making cost-effective decisions.
- Kitchen Maintenance: Oversee the cleaning and maintenance of the kitchen, dining hall, and all food service equipment to ensure a safe and functional environment.
- Team Collaboration: Work closely with camp leadership to align meal schedules with camp programming and special events.
- Legal authorization to work in the U.S.
- Willingness to submit to a criminal background check (instructions provided upon offer of the position).
- Proven experience as a foodservice director, head chef, or kitchen manager (experience in camps, schools, or healthcare settings preferred).
- Strong knowledge of food safety standards (ServSafe Certification or equivalent required).
- Demonstrated ability to lead and manage a diverse team.
- Excellent menu planning and organizational skills, with an ability to accommodate special diets.
- Experience managing food budgets and inventory.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining high standards.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs, stand for extended periods, and work in a hot kitchen environment.
